At Gibson LeClair, LLC our philosophy is to provide timely and efficient services by staffing the engagement with our experienced and knowledgeable professionals. We provide services to approximately fifty non-profit agencies ranging in size from small one to two employee associations to large entities with 400+ employees and annual revenues of $50+ million.
We have substantial experience auditing a wide variety of Federal and State grant programs. We understand the compliance audit requirements of Government Auditing Standards, OMB Uniform Guidance and Maine Uniform Accounting and Auditing Practices for Community Agencies (MAAP) and can develop audit approaches and plans that are cost effective and efficient while meeting the requirements of Federal and State agencies. We bring this same level of experience and expertise to all non-profit reviews, compilations, tax, or consulting services that we provide.
Our size allows us to develop strong, respectful working relationships with our clients. One of the distinguishing hallmarks of our firm is the immediate access clients have to our staff. Our staff is committed to the missions of our clients and can provide the financial guidance needed to meet your goals. Our goal is to provide the highest quality of service at a value to our clients.
We specialize in audits of community action programs, behavioral health agencies, child service providers, Head Start and Early Head Start programs, YMCA’s, United Ways, Federally Qualified Health Centers, social service agencies, domestic violence & shelter programs, assisted living services, and land trusts. We are happy to consult with all other non-profit organizations to determine whether we would be a good fit for your needs. We approach all audits as a valuable learning experience for our clients, aimed at fostering their growth.
Reviews & Compilations
Our review clients take comfort knowing an experienced CPA has determined that their financial statements conform to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) or to their financial reporting framework. Compiled financial statement preparation services are also offered for those needing to fulfill lender requirements. We approach our review and compilation procedures with the same expertise and attention to detail as in our audit services.
Most of our audit and review clients take advantage of our Form 990 Information Return preparation services. Our combined non-profit tax experience enables us to assist you with all tax issues or questions that may arise, including those related to unrelated business income tax (UBIT), 990-T’s, and 990-PF’s. An organization’s Form 990 is one if its most public documents, and we work with management to ensure that it not only complies with IRS requirements but also tells your story to the public. If you are starting a new non-profit organization, or your organization needs to seek reinstatement of a previous tax-exempt status, our staff can work with you to develop and prepare Form 1023, the application for recognition of exemption from income taxes.
Our knowledgeable team is available for assistance with internal control reviews, fraud risk assessments, QuickBooks, various cost report preparation, Head Start program and fiscal consulting. We are happy to consult with you to design an engagement that will satisfy your organization’s needs.
